  • Grant Application - General Information and Guidelines

    The Ozarka Environmental Stewardship Fund has been established at the Greater Houston Community Foundation through the generosity of Ozarka. 

    Purpose: 

    To support the waters and water-dependent natural resources through conservation, enhancement, and restoration projects that will result in improvements to the physical, chemical and/or biological integrity of the San Jacinto River Watershed.

    For the purposes of this grant application, the map below illustrates the geographic area of interest. Applicants should use this map as a guide to determine whether projects are located within, or meaningfully benefit, the San Jacinto River Watershed.

    Eligibility: 

    501(c)3 nonprofit organizations or fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization working to support the San Jacinto River Watershed.

    Organizations may apply for a grant of up to $50,000 for a one-year funding period. Organizations may reapply in future grant cycles; however, renewal funding is not guaranteed.

    Applications are accepted for San Jacinto River Watershed projects that will:

    • Conserve, enhance, and/or restore the watershed
    • Improve the quality and value of the watershed, including education for responsible utilization of natural resources of the watershed
    • Support stormwater management and/or reduce flood risk
    • Strengthen local water resilience
    • Reverse degradation
    • Generate a volumetric water benefit
    • Demonstrate collaboration among organizations
    • Leverage funding from other sources 

    Applications will be evaluated by a review committee based on the clarity, feasibility, alignment with the purpose stated above, and overall quality of responses. There is a selection preference for projects that  generate a volumetric water benefit.

    Timeline:

    • Application Opens: June 15th
    • Application Deadline: July 15th
    • Grant Notifications: By September 30th
